While the GMB Listing is the new Yellow Page listing – you may still have questions about what all you need to gather to fully create a new profile. Well in today’s blog we will outline that for you. Here’s a list of the 11 types of information you typically need to gather to create a Google Business Profile (formerly known as Google My Business):
Business Name: This should be the legal or registered name of your business.
Business Category: This should accurately reflect the nature of your business. Google has a number of categories you can choose from.
Physical Address: If you have a physical location customers can visit, you should include this. If your business doesn’t have a physical storefront but services customers at their location (like a plumber or landscaper), you’ll be able to list your service area.
Hours of Operation: The hours your business is open to serve customers. These should be regularly updated for holidays and special events.
Phone Number: A contact number where your customers can reach you. This could be a landline, mobile number, or a central customer service line, depending on the nature of your business.
Website: If you have a business website, you should include this. If not, Google can help generate a simple one based on your listing.
Photos: Upload high-quality photos of your business including the exterior, interior, and any important features or products. These will show up in image search results and can greatly enhance your listing.
Business Description: A brief overview of your business, what services/products you offer, and what sets you apart from competitors. This should be concise and engaging to potential customers.
Services/Products: If applicable, a list of services or products you offer.
Attributes: These provide additional information about your business (e.g., “Free WiFi”, “Wheelchair accessible”, “Offers outdoor seating”, etc.)
FAQs: Preemptively answer some common questions people might have about your business.
Please note that the information required might slightly vary depending on the type of business. It is also important to verify your business with Google once you have created your listing. This will typically involve Google sending a postcard to your registered business address with a verification code.
